About the role 
This position leads community focused teams delivering community development programs, activities, arts, events and associated grants in line with strategic priorities of Council. 
This position builds community capacity and supports community wellbeing through the application of social justice and community development programs, activities and events. 
Reporting to the Manager, Library & Community Services, the position works collaborative across Council and with community stakeholders to strengthen community capacity to deliver meaningful, community based outcomes. 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Lead, manage and engage the team to deliver core services and operational objectives, building capability and succession planning within the team. 
  • Develop, coordinate, implement and review Council’s Ageing Strategy, Disability Inclusion Action Plan, Social Plan, Arts & Cultural Plan and Annual Plan, in line with reporting cycles. 
  • Develop initiatives using community development practices working collaboratively with stakeholders to build and strengthen partnerships.  
  • Advocate to appropriate bodies to ensure awareness of and support for community service activities of the Shire. 
  • Liaise with all levels of Government and develop funding applications to ensure the optimal level of Government funding is received by Council for community service 
  • development. 
  • Provide support to the team through active engagement in sector forums and interagency networks, while developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships. 
  • Coordinate and manage major Council events, including community, cultural, and arts based programs, ensuring effective planning, delivery, and evaluation in line with Council objectives and policies. 
  • Manage and oversee the Home Modification Service, ensuring services are delivered efficiently, meet client needs, and comply with relevant policies and procedures.  

Position requirements 

  • Degree in Social Sciences or similar discipline and/or deemed equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and understand social justice, inclusion and community wellbeing issues. 
  • Experience in building partnerships with community groups, local organisations and stakeholders through consultation, influence and negotiation. 
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with and present to community and Non Government and Government organisations. 
  • Demonstrated experience of leading, managing, coaching and developing multi disciplinary teams. 
  • Experience developing, managing and evaluating community programs, events and initiatives. 
  • Ability to manage a calendar of major community events. 
  • Working with Childrens Check.
