Salary Range:
- Base Salary: From $105,287.00 to $121,212.00 (Grade 19, Step 1 to 4) per annum
- Plus: 12% superannuation
- Total Package: $117,921.44 to $135,757.44 per annum dependent upon competency step appointment.
The successful candidate will have access to step increases for the grade based on competency assessment and tenure within this position.

The Opportunity
Strathfield Council is seeking a motivated Finance Business Partner to join our team.
In this role, you will provide strategic financial support to business units, partner with leaders to drive informed decision-making, strong financial performance, and sustainable outcomes.

What You Will Be Doing
- Partner with leaders to deliver strategic financial advice
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Monitor performance, analyse variances, and provide insights
- Support business cases and capital investment decisions
- Enhance reporting, governance, and compliance
- Drive continuous improvement across financial processes.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is essential, with a membership to a professional body (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CA) or working towards attaining this full membership.
- Experience in the local government sector is not essential but considered highly advantageous.
- Advanced proficiency in financial analysis techniques, including financial modelling, forecasting, variance analysis, and business partnering to support strategic decision-making and improved business performance.
- Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders across the organisation in order to implement process change, budgetary improvement, and other financial gains.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience translating complex financial concepts for non-financial audiences.
- Advanced knowledge of budgeting principles and methodologies, with the ability to prepare various types of budgets (e.g., operating, capital, project) and manage the budget preparation process, including coordinating with departmental managers, analysing budget variances, and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and best practices, with the ability to interpret and apply complex accounting standards to the treatment of financial transactions.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to manipulate and analyse large datasets, including excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work, even under pressure, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
