Plumber

Warrumbungle Shire Council Full Time Permanent 3/02/2026

Salary Range: $71,647 - $83,265 + superannuation

Council is looking for a qualified Plumber who knows their way around water, sewer, and drainage systems and takes pride in doing the job properly. This is a hands-on role maintaining and repairing essential Council infrastructure that keeps the community running—water supply, sewer networks, stormwater systems, and public and Council facilities.

You will play a vital role in delivering safe, reliable water, sewer, and stormwater services to our community. From planned maintenance to emergency response, no two days are the same.

You’ll be carrying out installations, repairs, maintenance, inspections, and testing across Council assets, including reticulation networks, treatment facilities, buildings, and amenities. The work is varied and practical, with a mix of planned maintenance and urgent response to leaks, blockages, and breakdowns. You’ll also assist with new connections and ensure systems are certified and compliant and will supervise and train apprentices.

Safety and compliance matter here. You’ll be working to the NSW Plumbing Code of Practice, WHS legislation, and Council procedures, using well-maintained tools, plant, and vehicles. Accurate job records are part of the role, and you’ll be included in a rotating on-call roster to respond to after-hours emergencies when required.

We’re looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys problem-solving, and values teamwork and customer service. If you’re reliable, safety-focused, and can work independently or as part of a crew, this is a solid opportunity.

You’ll be part of a highly motivated, high-output team that backs each other, gets stuck in, and takes real pride in a job done right. You'll work alongside other Council trades and staff, deal directly with the public when needed, and be trusted to see jobs through properly. This is stable, long-term work with real purpose and the opportunity to make a genuine difference.

This position is located in the beautiful town of Coonabarabran, known as the Astronomy Capital of Australia, which is midway between Melbourne and Brisbane and is known for its beautiful landscape and stunning night skies. The town has medical services, excellent schools, a variety of sporting and social clubs and a thriving tourism Industry. With the nearby Warrumbungle National Park, which is also Australia’s first Dark Sky Park, there is plenty to do and explore whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation.

Selection criteria include:

  • Certificate III in Plumbing (or equivalent recognised qualification) - this is essential.
  • Current NSW Plumber and Drainer Licence.
  • Demonstrated experience in water, sewer, and drainage systems installation and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, Australian Standards, and plumbing codes.
  • Current White Card (Construction Induction).
  • Current Class MR Driver Licence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, risk management, and safe work practices.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and capacity to respond to urgent breakdowns and emergencies.
  • Participate in rotating on-call roster for emergency call-outs, including ability to be on-site in Coonabarabran within 30 minutes for any emergency call-out and within 30 minutes plus travel time to calls at other centres in the group
