Technical Officer

We are looking for a Technical Officer (up to 2 positions available) - Developments to join our team and play a key role in ensuring civil engineering works meet the highest standards. Reporting to the Coordinator Development Engineering, you will conduct site inspections of subdivisions and other developments, overseeing critical infrastructure such as roads, stormwater drainage, water supply, sewerage systems, and environmental protection measures. Your expertise in civil engineering construction methods and Council policies will be essential in ensuring compliance and best practices.

This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with engineers, contractors, government bodies, and the public, making a meaningful impact on local developments. You will also have the authority to recommend the acceptance of public assets and issue penalty notices under the Self Enforcing Infringement Notice Scheme (SEINS). Strong communication and record management skills are essential.

About the role:

  • Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with approved plans, policies, and regulations for subdivisions and other developments.
  • Oversee the construction of essential infrastructure, including roads, stormwater drainage, water supply, sewerage systems, and environmental protection measures.
  • Collaborate with engineers, contractors, government bodies, and the public to support quality development outcomes.
  • Recommend the acceptance of public assets and issue penalty notices under the Self Enforcing Infringement Notice Scheme (SEINS).
  • Maintain accurate records using Council’s Record Management System to ensure compliance with organisational requirements.

We are seeking:

  • A relevant trade certificate or tertiary qualification, combined with substantial technical experience in development engineering and supervising civil engineering projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise construction works for public water supply, sewerage systems, road pavements, and stormwater drainage.
  • Strong knowledge of environmental protection measures on construction sites, including sedimentation, noise, and dust control.
  • Excellent conflict resolution and complaint management skills when dealing with the public, government bodies, and stakeholders.
  • A high level of oral and written communication skills.

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
