Employment Status Permanent, full-time
Employment Arrangement 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy
Salary Range Commencing from $63,554.40 (Grade 7, Step 1) plus 11.5% Superannuation. The successful candidate will have access to step increases for the grade based on competency assessment and tenure within the position.

Strathfield Council (Council) is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.
About the Role
Strathfield Council has a great opportunity for a Horticulturist to join our Open Space & Sportsfields team on a permanent, full-time basis.
The purpose of this role is to maintain and enhance areas around Strathfield Council’s LGA and conduct horticulturist responsibilities, including but not limited to, pruning, planting, mulching, spraying, mowing and litter collection.
This role also assists in other areas of Park & Recreation maintenance programs as required. For more information about the duties and responsibilities for the role, please refer to the Position Description attached below.

About You
- Qualifications in Horticulture (minimum TAFE Certificate III in Horticulture Parks and Gardens) or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience.
- A current Class C Driver’s License.
- General Safety (White Card) Induction.
- Chemcert training (AQF 3)
- Demonstrated experience in a horticultural role and in the maintenance of all associated plant equipment
- Demonstrated high level of organisational skills to manage multiple tasks, exercise initiative and meet deadlines
- Demonstrated experience in the supervision and leadership of small teams
- Demonstrated level of verbal, numeracy and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience in identifying plants
- Relevant qualifications in Landscaping or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience (DESIRABLE)
- First Aid Certificate (DESIRABLE)
- Current NSW Class MR Driver’s Licence (DESIRABLE)
- Skid Steer, forklift or front-end loader license (DESIRABLE)
- Traffic Control (traffic controller, implement traffic control plans) (DESIRABLE)
