About the Role

This is an exciting Senior Town Planner role in Council’s Development Advisory and Insights Department.

Development Advisory and Insights is an integral part of Council's core planning function, providing high-quality planning and development advice together with frontline customer service to both internal and external stakeholders. The Service also delivers a range of specialised functions that make it a unique and highly regarded area of Council. These functions include management of Council's ePlanning portals, review and lodgement of development and subdivision applications, delivery of formal paid pre-lodgement review services, coordination of Council responses to State Significant Developments (SSD), administration of the Urban Design Review Panel (UDRP), management of the Duty Town Planner enquiry service,  and provision of expert advice to internal and external stakeholders.

The City of Ryde Council is looking for an energetic and motivated Senior Town Planner to join our Development Advisory and Insights Team.

 

About You

Your blend of strong technical and excellent customer service skills will enable you to work collaboratively with a wide range of community clients and industry professionals. If you enjoy being part of a front of house development advisory service and have experience preparing and/or assessing local development applications and/or State Significant Development applications, this could be your next exciting career move. 

 

As a Senior Town Planner, some of your responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

 

  • Providing expert advice on development proposals and enquiries for both small- and large-scale projects from a diverse range of clients and stakeholders
  • Leading the review and preparation of Council submissions on major development proposals affecting the City of Ryde, including State Significant Development Applications, State Significant Infrastructure projects, Reviews of Environmental Factors, and pre-lodgement consultation.
  • Managing the lodgement of local development applications & subdivisions certificates through the NSW Planning Portal as part of our clearing house meeting process and procedures
  • Facilitating and attending both formal and informal pre-DA meetings as well as the Urban Design Review Panel (design Excellence) meetings
  • Preparing and delivering presentations to Council as well as community, industry groups and forums on the relevant planning controls, approval process, changes to regulations, policies and similar

 

Key requirements

  • Degree level qualifications in town planning or equivalent
  • Extensive knowledge in the areas of urban planning and development assessment, either in local Development Applications or State Significant Development proposals
  • Sound knowledge of Environmental Planning and Assessment Act and planning systems and Land & Environment Court Appeals process.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to converse confidently and professionally with a range of clients including members of the public
  • Excellent organisation and time management skills with an ability to undertake a range of tasks and prioritise to meet tight deadlines

 

Your commencing annual salary will range from $112,947.75 to $146,832.08 + Superannuation dependent on your experience and qualifications.
