The Opportunity

As an Assistant Pool Superintendent, you play a key role in creating safe, welcoming and enjoyable aquatic spaces for everyone who visits. You will be part of a passionate team, working closely with Pool Superintendents and fellow staff, while taking ownership of your shift. At times you will be the most senior person on site, giving you the opportunity to lead, guide others and respond to the needs of the community in real time.

We have two different opportunities available, both each offering a unique connection to the community.

Thirroul Pool - You will support a seasonal outdoor ocean pool that attracts both local residents and visitors. This role is highly visible and community facing, where you engage directly with patrons and contribute to a relaxed, safe and enjoyable coastal experience.

Beaton Park Leisure Centre - You will work within a busy indoor facility that delivers a wide range of programs including learn to swim, fitness and hydrotherapy. You will support a diverse community, including people with disability and rehabilitation needs, ensuring access is safe, smooth and inclusive.

Across both roles, your ability to connect with people, provide great service and a positive, safe environment is central to your success. These roles involve working on a rotating roster across seven days, including weekend work, and requires you to be physically capable of performing duties as outlined in the Position Description. Under Part 2, Section 6 of the Child Protection (Working With Children) Act 2012, this position has been designated as requiring a paid Working With Children Check.

These are permanent full-time positions. Salary from : $81,190 up to $87,142 per annum plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications) An increase of 4% to the salary will be applied from 1 July 2026.

How you'll make a difference

  • You will be at the centre of the customer experience, helping create a space where people feel safe, respected and welcome
  • You actively supervise pool areas to keep the community safe and respond to incidents with confidence
  • You provide friendly, professional and respectful service as the first point of contact for customers
  • You resolve issues at the time they arise, supporting a positive experience for every visitor
  • You help people feel comfortable using the facility, including those who may need additional support
  • You coordinate pool access and programs to ensure fair, safe and enjoyable use of shared spaces
  • You maintain a clean, safe and welcoming environment across the facility
  • You lead and support staff on shift to deliver consistent service and safety standards
  • You contribute to the smooth day to day operation of the facility, including water quality, plant operations and reporting

About you

You are someone who enjoys working with people and takes pride in delivering a positive experience for the community. You understand that your role goes beyond supervision, it is about creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels safe and respected.

You bring a practical, hands-on approach and are confident making decisions, solving problems and supporting others. You are just as comfortable engaging with customers as you are managing operations behind the scenes.

You will bring:

  • Experience working in public swimming pool operations or a similar community focused environment
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with a diverse range of people
  • A proactive approach to customer service, with a focus on resolving issues at the first point of contact
  • Confidence to lead on shift and support a small team
  • The ability to stay calm and professional in challenging situations
  • Good organisation skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A willingness to learn and continuously improve
  • You will also hold Pool Superintendent Certificate or equivalent
  • Current Pool Lifeguard Certificate
  • Current First Aid certification
  • Current NSW Working With Children Check
