Council is seeking an experienced, people‑focused Engineering Works Manager to lead our civil construction, maintenance and cemetery operations. This is a key leadership role requiring engineering knowledge, visible leadership and the ability to effectively manage people, resources and performance. Success in this role relies on your ability to work closely across Council, build strong relationships with stakeholders and drive safe, sustainable and cost‑effective infrastructure outcomes for the community.

The position leads four direct reports and a broader workforce of more than 30 employees, and plays a key role in fostering a positive, accountable and high‑performing culture.

About the Role:

As Engineering Works Manager, you will:

  • Lead Council’s civil construction and maintenance programs for civil public assets.
  • Manage cemetery operations, with responsibility for both strategic planning and day‑to‑day operations
  • Develop, implement and oversee systems for cost control, programming, quality assurance, environmental management and workplace safety
  • Ensure works are delivered safely, on time and within budget
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulators and community stakeholders
  • Champion a customer‑focused, performance‑driven culture aligned with Council’s values

You are a visible, approachable and decisive leader who combines engineering knowledge with strong people and resource management skills. You are comfortable balancing strategic oversight with practical, hands‑on involvement and are confident managing performance, change and competing priorities. Your leadership style is collaborative, innovative and solutions‑focused. You can maintain control of the bigger picture while navigating operational complexity and leading teams through challenge and change.

This role is based at Council’s Oak Flats Works Depot. A new, purpose‑built facility that supports modern ways of working and provides direct access to both operational teams and leadership staff. The depot plays a critical role in the delivery of Council’s civil works, maintenance and depot operations.

  • Permanent full time, 35 hours per week with access to flexi-time
  • Commencing salary range from $118,691 - $138,432 per annum (range is determined by the completion of Diploma or Degree level qualification)
