Lead governance excellence in one of NSW’s most stunning coastal regions.
Shoalhaven City Council is seeking a Chief Internal Auditor to drive transparency, strengthen risk management, and embed best practice across the organisation. Reporting directly to the CEO, this is a strategic leadership role with significant influence on culture and decision-making.
About the Role
- Coordinate Council’s internal audit program and manage external service providers.
- Develop and implement the Strategic Internal Audit Plan aligned with Global Internal Audit Standards and NSW OLG Guidelines.
- Prepare and present audit reports to the Executive Leadership Team and Audit Risk & Improvement Committee (ARIC).
- Provide expert advice on governance, compliance, and risk management.
- Maintain audit systems and processes for continuous improvement.
About You
- Tertiary qualifications in business, accounting, commerce, or related discipline.
- Professional certifications: CIA, CPA, or CA, plus membership with the Institute of Internal Auditors.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior internal audit role within a large, complex organisation.
- Strong understanding of Enterprise Risk Management principles.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Current Class C Driver’s Licence and the right to work in Australia.
