Position Overview

The Principal Advisor, Performance and Corporate Governance plays a vital role in guiding Circular Head Council towards optimal governance and organisational performance. This position is responsible for leading corporate performance reporting, risk management, business continuity, and internal audit functions, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and promoting best practices.

The role acts as the key governance and risk advisor to the Director Corporate and Communities, the General Manager, and the Audit Panel, ensuring effective decision-making is supported by clear analysis and well-considered recommendations. It also promotes a culture of continuous improvement, efficiency, and innovation, helping to embed best practice governance across all areas of Council.

The role could be fulfilled in either a part time or full-time capacity depending on the candidate’s availability

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing performance reporting processes aligned with strategic objectives.
  • Coordinating the Audit Panel and Internal Audit Program, ensuring accountability and transparency.
  • Leading the Business Continuity Plan development and organisational preparedness efforts.
  • Implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance governance practices.
  • Managing the policy and Risk Management framework to ensure alignment with Council objectives.
  • Providing governance and performance advice to senior leadership, Councillors and the Audit Panel.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

Candidate Profile

We are seeking a qualified professional with a strong background in governance and performance management. The ideal candidate will have:

  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Law, Public Policy, Governance, or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in corporate governance, compliance, and policy management ideally within a government or complex organisational setting.
  • Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain a Risk Management Framework, including registers, treatment plans, and reporting.
  • Experience coordinating and supporting a governance committee, including agenda preparation, reporting, minutes, and action tracking.
  • Experience overseeing or managing Internal Audit or continuous improvement programs.

Salary and Benefits

The successful candidate will earn an attractive salary of $91,000 Full-time (Pro-rata Part-time) PLUS super and a range of benefits including:
