Your role as Finance Officer (Payroll)
As our Finance Officer at West Tamar Council, you’ll be responsible for managing the fortnightly payroll cycle, maintaining accurate employee records, and ensuring compliance with legislation and Council agreements. Your role supports the Finance Department through data input, reconciliations, reporting, and general accounting duties, all while safeguarding confidentiality and delivering responsive internal service.
You’ll work closely with managers and staff to resolve payroll issues, provide timely advice, and recommend improvements to systems and processes. This part-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-performing team in a dynamic local government environment that values accountability, teamwork, and community service.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for candidates who are reliable, hardworking, and willing to learn.
- At least 12 months' experience as a payroll officer, ideally in a workplace with more than 30 employees.
- Understanding of payroll processes, procedures, and relevant legislation.
- Knowledge of Council policies and employment conditions or willingness to learn.
- Demonstrated experience in computer software, especially MS365 (Word and Excel), and payroll systems.
- Understanding of accounting principles and practices and be a team player.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to organise and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.
- Keen attention to detail and high standard of data entry accuracy.
- A current Tasmanian driver’s licence.
