Are you looking for the right career and lifestyle move? Do you want to make an impact on the future of the community you live in? Here's your opportunity to kick a career goal while you enjoy an incredible lifestyle on the beautiful Barrington Coast.
The role
After the significant impact of the severe flood event in May 2025, MidCoast Council is focused on supporting a strong, community-led response and rebuilding effort. We’re looking for a passionate and capable Community Recovery Officer for a 12 month fixed-term to help guide, support, and empower our community through this critical phase.
In this role you’ll work closely with community groups, businesses, emergency services and government agencies to ensure recovery activities are community-led, relevant and effective. You’ll be out and about across the region – identifying needs, attending recovery events and meetings, supporting community-led initiatives, and strengthening networks that build long-term resilience for the MidCoast.
What you’ll be doing:
- Supporting flood-affected communities across the MidCoast to access recovery information, services and resources.
- Attending and coordinating local recovery events, meetings and resilience network activities.
- Facilitating connections across community groups, local businesses, government agencies and service providers.
- Managing funds and projects that contribute to community recovery and capacity building.
- Ensuring clear and regular communication with Council and external stakeholders through updates, reports and project plans.
- Coordinating the Community Resilience Network and ensuring local voices are at the centre of recovery decisions.
- Adapting to changing priorities as needs evolve, and helping shape a responsive and inclusive recovery approach.
We’re looking for someone with a strong commitment to community wellbeing, who can listen, connect, and take initiative. Ideally, you’ll have relevant qualifications and practical experience in community development or recovery, combined with excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust and work respectfully with diverse groups. Experience delivering community-led initiatives is essential. You’ll also need to be flexible—ready to travel across the region, attend events outside regular hours, and adapt comfortably to changing needs and priorities.
In this role, you’ll work closely with a wide range of stakeholders, including the NSW Reconstruction Authority, other local councils, emergency services, Council teams, local recovery committees, community groups and leaders, as well as state and national recovery agencies and service providers.
Play a meaningful role in helping MidCoast communities recover with strength and resilience. If you're driven to support people through challenge and change, we'd love to hear from you!
