The Opportunity
Are you an experienced and personable leader with a passion for civil infrastructure and community service? Wollongong City Council is seeking a Civil Coordinator to lead a small, dedicated team delivering essential maintenance services across our city.
In this role, you'll be at the heart of our City Works division, managing a team of operational staff responsible for maintaining and improving public assets such as stormwater systems, footpaths, roads, and bridges. You'll respond to reactive maintenance needs, oversee scheduled works, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes for our community.
You'll be joining a supportive and professional team, working closely with the City Maintenance Manager and other Civil Coordinators to shape proactive maintenance strategies and support the implementation of Council's recently adopted Asset Management Plan 2025 to 2035
This is a hands-on leadership role where your ability to communicate clearly, listen actively, and lead with integrity will make a real difference.
This is a Permanent Full-Time position. Salary from: $101,912.04 up to $130,956.2 per annum plus superannuation and an operational motor vehicle under leaseback for private use. (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications) This role is requires participation in the after-hours emergency response roster.
How you'll make a difference
- Lead and support a small team of operational staff in delivering civil maintenance activities.
- Respond to high-volume, reactive maintenance requests and ensure timely resolution.
- Manage budgets, resources, and schedules to meet service delivery goals.
- Conduct on-site inspections and engage directly with community members.
- Collaborate with the City Maintenance Manager to identify problem areas and develop proactive maintenance strategies.
- Monitor and report on project progress, safety compliance, and quality standards.
- Contribute to the development of long-term preventative maintenance programs.
About you
You are an experienced leader with a strong background in civil maintenance, ready to take on a dynamic and hands-on role. With experience leading operational teams, you bring a balanced and principled approach to leadership and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You are personable, patient, and a good listener, able to communicate effectively with multiple audiences. Your technical knowledge of civil infrastructure allows you to guide autonomous teams confidently, and you are committed to building team cohesion and understanding local challenges. You are proactive in identifying problem areas, working collaboratively to develop maintenance strategies within budget constraints, and always striving to deliver high-quality outcomes for the community.
