Are you passionate about biodiversity and natural resource management? Camden Council is seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Biodiversity Officer to help protect and enhance our urban and natural environments while fostering community awareness and engagement.
About the Role
As a Biodiversity Officer, you'll lead and support projects that promote biodiversity conservation and natural resource management across the Camden local government area. You'll provide technical advice, develop educational programs, and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver impactful environmental outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement biodiversity education programs, displays, and activities.
- Provide technical advice on environmental impact assessments, planning, and pest/weed management.
- Coordinate contractors and ensure compliance with service standards and legislation.
- Prepare funding applications and manage project budgets, timelines, and reporting.
- Undertake natural resource management projects.
- Contribute to policy development and review.
- Promote Council's core values of Leadership, Innovation, Partnership, Commitment, Customer Focus, and Safety.
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Tertiary qualifications and / or demonstrated equivalent experience in Natural Resource Management / Environmental Science or similar.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of natural resource management and biodiversity conservation issues.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, promoting, implementing, evaluating and monitoring biodiversity and natural resources management projects.
- Demonstrated experience in developing, promoting, implementing, evaluating and monitoring biodiversity education / engagement projects.
- Ability to write analytical and logical reports drawing justified conclusions.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Highly developed time management skills and the ability to manage high workloads.
Desirable:
- Experience working in local government.
- Experience delivering natural resource management, restoration or engagement projects in Western Sydney.
- Experience with asset management software and GIS applications.
