Employment Arrangement 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy.
Salary Commencing from $1,827 per week (Grade 16, Step 1) plus 11.5% Superannuation.

Council Overview

Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team on a temporary basis to cover employee leave. This position is a temporary appointment for up to three (3) months.

The purpose of this role is to achieve the retention and protection of protected public and private trees throughout the Local Government Area and maximise the environmental, social, and economic value provided by the urban forest to the community. The Tree Management Officer assists with the management of Strathfield’s urban forest within the Local Government Area.

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Diploma of Arboriculture (AQF5) or other related field of study
  • Experience in the assessment of trees, and resolution of complex arboricultural issues associated with urban tree management and development applications, preferably in local government
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the relevant regulations such as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Australian Standard for Protection of trees on development sites AS4970.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of customers in a professional manner.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as an individual or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in a wide range of computer software packages including Microsoft Office, Electronic Records Management etc.
  • Current NSW ‘Class C’ Driver Licence
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to Urban Forestry principles.
