Employment Status Permanent, full-time.
Employment Arrangement 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy.
Salary Range Commencing from $102,229.40 (Grade 19, Step 1) plus 11.5% Superannuation. The successful candidate will have access to step increases based on competency assessment and tenure within the position.
Council Overview
Strathfield Council (Council) is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.
About the Role
Strathfield Council is seeking a Finance Business Partner to join our finance team on a full time, permanent basis.
The Finance Business Partner plays a critical role in providing financial leadership and support to business units across Council. The role is responsible for partnering with senior leaders to develop annual budgets and operating benchmarks, drive business performance, achieve financial targets, and support strategic decision-making.
The Finance Business Partner leads the financial planning and analysis function to ensure effective financial management across the organisation while providing support across other core finance functions.

About You
The successful candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is essential, with a membership to a professional body (e.g. CPA, ACCA, CA) or similar professional certification is desirable.
- Solid experience in financial planning and analysis or similar role.
- Advanced proficiency in financial analysis techniques, including financial modelling, forecasting, variance analysis, and business partnering to support strategic decision-making and improved business performance.
- Advanced knowledge of budgeting principles and methodologies, with the ability to prepare various types of budgets (e.g., operating, capital, project) and manage the budget preparation process, including coordinating with departmental managers, analysing budget variances, and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and best practices, with the ability to interpret and apply complex accounting standards to the treatment of financial transactions.
- Proven ability to lead and develop junior staff, with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to manipulate and analyse large datasets, including excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work, even under pressure with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
- Solid experience in supporting financial accounting functions, including preparing financial statements, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, is highly desirable.
- Strong negotiation skills, with the ability to influence key stakeholders across the organisation in order to implement process change, budgetary improvement, and other financial gains.
