Diamantina Shire Council, known for its striking landscapes, covers nearly 95,000 square kilometers, that includes over 1,685 kilometres of road that are predominantly dirt or gravel – with only 190 kilometres of sealed road. This amazing Shire, with striking landscapes includes the iconic destinations of Birdsville, Bedourie and Betoota, as well as world-famous events such as the Birdsville Races and Big Red Bash. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive, safe and close-knit community.
Based in Bedourie, the Director Infrastructure Services manages essential services such as roads, water supply, and community facilities, while overseeing council fleet operations.
Reporting to the CEO, you’ll lead a small team and work with long-standing consultants who have deep knowledge of the region’s projects. Your role will involve delivering infrastructure projects, providing guidance to your team, managing contractors effectively, and importantly foster partnerships with state and federal stakeholders.
You’ll need strong project management skills, technical expertise, and the ability to write clear, detailed reports. The role involves frequent long-distance travel, so being comfortable driving for extended periods is important.
Working in a region where half the population identifies as Indigenous, you’ll need cultural awareness and an understanding of collaborating with First Nations communities. This role also requires someone who enjoys connecting with people, as being part of the community is essential.
