Lead community and economic growth in Outback Queensland, a quintessential Australian location
This isn’t just a job – it’s an adventure in the heart of Australia, where you will play a vital role in shaping the future of community services, economic development, and tourism within the Diamantina Shire.
The Shire is renowned for its vast landscapes, rich history, and vibrant community spirit. Covering nearly 95,000 square kilometres, it is home to iconic destinations like Birdsville, Bedourie and Betoota, as well as world-famous events such as the Birdsville Races and the Big Red Bash. With a population small in number but big in heart, Diamantina offers a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a supportive, safe and close-knit community.
Based in Birdsville, the role reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and oversees key areas such as events, childcare, recreation, visitor information services, library services, and external grants and funding. This is a chance to lead an experienced team, deliver innovative community programs, and foster partnerships with state and federal stakeholders.
We are seeking candidates with demonstrated leadership experience in community services, economic development, tourism or a similar sector. You will bring strong strategic planning, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with a passion for driving positive outcomes.
Working in a region where half the population identifies as Indigenous, you’ll need cultural awareness and an understanding of collaborating with First Nations communities. This role requires someone who enjoys connecting with people, as being part of the community is essential.
Benefits include:
- A competitive remuneration package including quality housing, airfare allowance and 6 weeks’ annual leave
- The opportunity to live and work in one of Australia’s most iconic outback regions
- Professional growth as part of an executive leadership team
- A supportive, safe and welcoming community environment
