81,554.20 to $93,165.80 per annum, (dependent upon experience) plus 11.5% Superannuation

Council Overview

Strathfield Council (Council) is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.

About the Role

Strathfield Council has a great opportunity for a Tree Investigations Officer to join our Operations Department on a permanent, full-time basis.

The purpose of this role is to achieve the retention and protection of protected public and private trees throughout the Local Government Area and maximise the environmental, social and economic value provided by the urban forest to the community. The Tree Investigations Officer assists with the management of Strathfield’s Urban Forest within the Local government area. About You

The successful candidate will possess the following:

  • Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Conservation and Ecosystem Management (TAFE Cert 4 or Diploma Level) or other related field of study with 5 years of working experience in an environmental protection or compliance role.
  • Current NSW ‘Class C’ Driver Licence
  • Prior experience in compliance regulatory and/or enforcement roles are preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving compliance issues and an ability to negotiate and mediate on contentious matters.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the relevant regulations such as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Australian Standard for Protection of trees and development sites AS4970.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of customers in a professional manner.
  • Proven ability to work effectively as an individual or in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in a wide range of computer software packages including Microsoft Office, Electronic Records Management etc.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.
