Chief Executive Officer

Sutherland Shire Council Full Time Permanent 1/05/2024

Sutherland Shire sits at the southern border of the Sydney metropolitan area situated 26 kilometres from the Sydney CBD. It is home to some of Sydney’s most iconic beaches, and is surrounded by significant natural areas including the Georges River and Port Hacking waterways, Kamay National Park and the Royal National Park – Australia’s oldest National Park.

With over 230,000 residents, the Sutherland Shire encompasses communities such as the coastal suburbs of Cronulla and Kurnell, bushland areas like Woronora and Grays Point, and urban centres of Miranda and Menai. The Sutherland Shire is a diverse area, playing home to key government agencies such as ANSTO located at Lucas Heights, a developed industrial area and – as with many areas of Sydney – will be experiencing continued urban growth in the years to come.

Sutherland Shire Council is looking for a visionary and strategic leader to take on the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As the CEO, you will lead the Council towards achieving the goals outlined in our Community Strategic Plan, ensuring the successful management of organisational resources to achieve commitments set out in our Delivery Program and Operational Plan.

You will work closely with the elected Councillors and collaborate with a talented team of professionals to successfully shape the future of the Sutherland Shire.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic senior executive, with well-rounded experience in large complex organisations, supported by a successful track record of delivering improved outcomes and performance.

You will bring an advanced leadership skillset across strategy, stakeholder management, finance and risk management.

You will lead a strong executive team, be adept at building a high performing culture, and have the ability to balance competing demands in a complex political environment.
