Bring your experience in civil infrastructure assessment and project oversight to the Shire of Capel in this 6-month opportunity. You'll provide technical support in delivering capital works projects, maintaining public infrastructure, and supporting compliance activities.

Job Description
As our Technical Officer – Roads & Infrastructure you will be responsible for assessing a range of applications, including bus stop and shelter requests, RAV and heavy vehicle routes, third-party works in the road reserve, and traffic management plans. You will also manage statutory processes under relevant legislation, such as temporary road closures and event approvals, and assist with the assessment of subdivision designs, budget preparation, asset management, and infrastructure compliance. Your keen attention to detail and understanding of local government procedures will support the delivery of safe and efficient road and infrastructure outcomes for the Shire.
In addition to technical assessments, the role involves contract management responsibilities including procuring and supervising consultants and contractors, ensuring compliance with safety standards and contractual obligations, and assisting in the negotiation of variations. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders and external partners such as residents, contractors, and government agencies, contributing to infrastructure projects that meet community needs. Your collaborative approach, problem-solving mindset, and strong communication skills will be key in supporting the Engineering & Works team and enhancing the Shire’s commitment to delivering quality services.

To be considered for this role you will be able to demonstrate:

• Understanding of engineering project management for municipal infrastructure (e.g. paths, cycleways, roads, drainage, landscaping).
• Knowledge of engineering design, construction methods, materials, and equipment for infrastructure delivery.
• Familiarity with early project planning processes including project briefs, permits, environmental factors, budgeting, and funding applications.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project).
• Current WA "C" class driver’s licence.
• Understanding of local or state government infrastructure programs and processes.
Qualifications or experience in engineering or project management, a working knowledge of CAD or surveying tools, traffic management practices, and a sound understanding of Work Health and Safety requirements in civil works will be highly regarded.
